It takes a spot of courage to stand up tall and a bit of derring-do to rise when you fall

Pay More Attention, Dummies!

I'm getting sick and tired of seeing these dead squirrels all over the streets. Seems I can't go anywhere anymore without having to keep a keen eye on the street in case yet another squirrel carcass is blocking the road. Gross. Sometimes I even have to slow way down because there isn't a lot of room to just go around it. Can't they be a little more observant when trying to cross the road? And here's a tip, squirrel: don't run back into the street when a car is coming. Keep going toward the sidewalk. That's right.

At least I've never hit one. Then I'd really be mad.

if your whole life revolved around nuts and dodging cats, you'd probably throw yourself in front of a car too.

that's a worthy perspective.

Why does a squirrel cross the street? a- No over-head utility line to run across. b- No tree limbs close enough to jump. c- Suicide. d- To scare, annoy or make drivers feel bad when they hit them. e- The acorns are always better on the other side. My tendency is to vote -d- just because they are so ornery. ec

i know that you don't watch tv but there's a commercial (i think for an insurance company) that shows a squirrel in the middle of the road. a car comes upon it and the squirrel remains "rooted" there. the car swerves off the road and into a tree (or something). a second squirrel comes out and the two exchange high fives! i always knew there was deliberation in their being in the road!

here's what my friend who lived in major squirrel country taught me:

if you swerve you hit the squirrel more often than not.

so keep driving on the same trajectory and you're less likely to hit the squirrel.

then, she told me that this was not true for raccoons.

Thomas: aren't cats just the sweetest, tho! With a friend like Boo.....

I think you're right, Mr. Eddie! "F" is my guess.

and si, funny thing but I've actually seen that commercial. I must've been traveling or something. Pretty good one. I think it IS a conspiracy.

and h-f: do raccoons attend a different school than squirrels? why would it be different? interesting....

I always picture squirrels to be cute little things just like on TV :)
We don't have them here, however we do have enough critters thst do the exact same thing as your squirrels!

ugh, squirrels are not cute.

they're dirty tree rats.

i may have been influenced however by waking up to have a squirrel on me and being really grossed out.

jay are, raccoons - in my opinion, i've never studied this in depth - are too attitudinal and slow moving.

yeah, they seem to be surveying the situation and deeming everyone else inferior. I've gotten that sense as well....
and we have a lot of black squirrels (tree rats, yes)here. I've mentioned that to other people and they look at me like I'm nuts. I'm not! They're black. Really.
