Busy With A Whole Lotta Nothin'
Not "nothing" in the sense of "nothing important" but meaning "not a whole lot to show for it."
We've been busy as can be, it seems, but I feel like I've not accomplished a whole lot. We went down south to Tehachapi to visit a good friend of mine and her kids. They followed us back up home and my friend (who's a wonder in the garden) is magically making my yard look lovely once again. She can do more in five minutes than I can do in a week. We around here call her "Gunda" (pronounced goon-dah) as in "Gunda the maid" because she's always busily working when she's here.
It's quite a thing, though, to have seven kids running pell-mell, trying to garden, trying to do my court reporting school stuff and trying to keep the house from totalling collapsing. But that's what summer's all about, right?? We haven't done anything fun with the kids yet, though, and they're getting mighty bored. We planned to go to the beach tomorrow but it's looking like the coast is a bit on the cold and foggy side this week, so we'll probably stick closer to town and go to the park and have a picnic. Not on the scale of, say, Disneyland fun but fun nonetheless.
Okay, now that you're all bored out of your minds....aren't you glad I posted again? Imagine if you'd missed this!
Hope everyone else is having a decent summer.

Covering New Territory
It looks like Paris might have to suffer a consequence after all. New territory. Charting new paths. This was made clear in the scene at court where she apparently was taken away, screaming, wailing, "It's not right!" and "Mom!" Mom was supposed to save the day. Again. Mom, money, privilege, status---all the things that have saved her before from ever having to suffer a consequence were supposed to take care of this new revolting development. Alas, Paris may have swum out into deeper waters where Mom and Money have no power. We shall see.
It's a little scary to think of a society where more and more there is no personal responsibility or accountability.

When You're Rich And Famous, You Can Buy Your OWN Brand Of Justice!!
I don't know why this surprises me. Paris Hilton has been allowed now to finish her jail sentence in the comfort of her own home. After "extensive consultation with medical personnel", it's been decided that that would be best. Mm-hmmm. And who do you suppose paid for that brilliant medical opinion?? Paris wasn't eating much of the jail food. Aww. Poor thing. It wasn't up to her usual standards, I guess.
What a sickening display of easily bought "justice". Ya gotta know that someone was bought off. Somehow.
Isn't Paris just such a role model for young people everywhere?
(It's wrong, somehow, to talk about Paris in any sort of proximity to Kelsey. One is fake and spoiled and nauseating, who cried wolf when suddenly facing consequences for her disgusting behavior. The other was real and fresh and substantial, a true victim whose family now suffers the results of real tragedy.)

Ineffable
I cannot imagine being the parents of Kelsey Smith. I cannot imagine being one of her siblings or her friends, her grandparents, her anything. I can't imagine what they must be going through.
I hope they find this guy. I hope justice is done.
But, really, what is justice? How is there justice for a life cut short, dreams stolen and crushed, lives ruined? What could be justice? How do we protect our children, our babies, our emerging young adults? So scary.
