The Dog Days Of Summer
....are over. But speaking of dogs, I'm wondering----quite tentatively, mind you!----what kind of dog best meets these requirements: low maintenance (short-haired), non-hyper, kid-friendly, small, CUTE. Anybody have any ideas or suggestions??

A vet recommended a King Charles Spaniel... kinda like a cocker spaniel... but we have littler kids than you... Poodles don't shed, so a Labradoodle might make sense for you unless you like the poodle-look (somehow I can't imagine that with you)... just a thought...

how funny that you knew the poodle look wasn't really for me. You were right. I think I saw some pictures of the king charles. I definitely want a non-shedder (or close to it) cuz my biggest concern is having company and such. I don't want dog hair all over the furniture and allergens in the air..haha...anyway! thanks for the suggestions! let's get together soon.

Well, I'm no expert, but I think this is the one I'd choose:

haha, unca! I knew it'd be good coming from you :) Someone else had that very same suggestion and I think you're on to somethin'. That's more in line with what I'm up for, that's for sure. Thanks!

I've heard pugs are great family dogs - good temperament, ugly as sin (although some may say they're so ugly they've crossed back over into cute), small, short-haired. I don't know about their shedding and activity levels, though.
What about something like a Basset Hound? short, low to the ground, sniffers, sorta lazy. :) BOxers are biggish, but they're so sweet and hilarious.
Here's some more info. DOGZ RULE, CATZ DROOL

Oh! Also, Boston terriers are high on my list of so much fun and oh my gosh they can actually see opposing walls at the same time.

haha...heather you're funny. I agree with the "so ugly, cross back over to cute thing". Thanks for the info and for the link. When (and if) a pup (or 2? gulp) comes into the picture, I'll be sure to post a picture. :) I think it'll still be a little bit down the road but who knows. The kids are yammering for one. Do they take care of themselves? That's what I want to know. ha. The dogs, I mean, not the kids. I know about those. (and the answer is NO).

how about miniature schnauzers? i know of several people who have gotten them recently and they love them! apparently they don't really shed and they're really smart. i'll forward you some pix that someone sent me to your email.
i've been trying to talk my sister into getting a dog (kids really want one) but she's being really hard-hearted. :-(

ahh, that's too bad about your sister. I'm not a dog person at all but I know it'll be so good for the kids, so hey...I'm game. gulp. And looking forward to the pics! Thanks for the suggestion.
