And This Is Important Because...?
I found this article interesting in which Rush Limbaugh found it necessary to quickly conclude that the Virginia Tech murders were committed by a "liberal". Anyone spouting off at the rich, etc., has to be a liberal. (And it's important to apply these labels as quickly as we can.) I'm trying to figure out why this matters really. I'm trying to understand why this knowledge is vital. I bet it really matters to the grieving families whether this lunatic was a Republican or a Democrat. I bet they'll get a lot of comfort in knowing that, phew! it wasn't a Republican who pulled the trigger.....or was it? How do we know? Why would we care? How does that help us?
Sometimes I weary of the angst and rage and vitriol that we otherwise know as politics. Some things are just tragedies. Period.

As a bumper sticker I used to see on many cars said: "Flush Rush."

Must not have been too 'important' since most of us didn't see or read it before this. : )

I suppose anyone listening to Rush heard it. The point is, why was it important to make it a point?

People who are small-minded have difficulty dealing with huge life-changing traumatic situations. They need labels in order to assure themselves that the world is under control. Rush feels better now but those of us with more gray matter know that it's not as simple as all that.

No, it certainly isn't as simple as that and maybe even Rush doesn't think it's as simple as that---but I tire of every single situation having to be reduced to a political side. Some things don't fit on one side or the other---most of real life, in fact, doesn't.

He has no class and no tact (Rush, that is). The man has no idea when to keep his mouth shut out of respect for other hurting human beings.

Rush Limbaugh continues to be an embarassment to those of us who lean slightly to the right. He's a bombastic, ranting, bully and I don't want him on my side. His only talent seems to be the ability to take a single observation and restate it over and over again for (literally) two hours.

that sounds like what I remember from the times I listened to Rush. There are plenty on the left who are exactly the same. There's a talk show host on a local station here who is very left and very ridiculous in just the same way---if you don't agree with him, you're an idiot, and he just repeats the same thing over and over. Drives me crazy, whatever side it comes from.

I don’t like reality shows but I might watch one episode of Rush Limbaugh & Rosie O'Donnell on a deserted island together.
Maybe they could name it something like Rush around the Rosie

I like blogball's suggestion. That would be must-see-TV.

I would definitely watch that. maybe you should send the idea to the producers or something---sounds like it's got potential. And the title is primo.

oh, hadn't heard this! and rush making this statement -- what a surprise! :P
blogball -- hysterical! i would (maybe) watch too.

Would plan my gym trips around Rush around the Rosie... hey, she's leaving the View, blogball, you should really put this out there as a viable idea... Hmmm.

Go RUSH!

Was Jay Are saying something about 'vitriol?' Wow! Lots of it has magically appeared in what is read here!!!!

I think people get disgusted with ranting and raging, name-calling, labeling, categorizing, finger-pointing, etc., especially in sensitive situations where it's not a time to be politicizing---no matter which side it's on. And some people specialize in it more than others. But that's also the fun of having a blog---you can air your opinion with as much vitriol as ya want, if you want---ditto with the comments. Just like having a talk show: you can spout what you want but it doesn't mean that people have to agree or like you for it.
For instance: I could post a rant and rage if I wanted about the fact that the person who killed those Amish children was a conservative, right-wing wacko. But I wouldn't because what his politics were had nothing to do with why he flipped out and killed those children. And what his politics were made no difference to the families trying to heal and accept that their lives are forever changed.
Over and out.
