Oh Johnny Depp, Was That You?
Did you hear about the cruise liner that was attacked by pirates off the coast of Somalia? Pirates. Luckily no one was hurt badly and the captain of the liner was able to outrun the pirates. I guess I don't get out very much, but there's something just kind of cool about that. Okay, okay, I know they're the bad guys, and I don't think it's cool that in this particular area food relief efforts are being sabotaged by these very creatures but still.....all that serious, important stuff aside: Pirates.
An understatement from one of the passengers: "We're always looking for adventure, but this is probably a little more than we would normally look for."

there is a huge problem with maritime pirates off of indonesia.
it sounds ridiculous (and indeed i giggled when i heard the cruise ship attacked by pirates story on the news), but it's a HUGE problem for the shipping industry in southeast asia.
name that movie: "murdered by pirates is good!"

I had to cheat, so I'm not going to say! I'll let someone else get the glory....It did sound familiar tho. Was that line in the book as well? I'm trying to remember.
and from what I've read about the pirates, it IS a huge problem and I certainly don't want to make light of it. It just sounded so primitive and yet so hollywood somehow.

let me just add that i thot the pirates in question were decidedly drab-looking.
where were the swords? where the stripedy stockings, the eye patches, buckly shoes? and i saw not one single parrot among them.
i say, if you're going to be a pirate, you have an obligation to dress the part.

I totally agree!! It was a bit on the disappointing side, yes? And I think they even used machine guns. What kind of pirate is that? Where are the cannons? Or the swords, like you say.
